Well stated! These Big Boys [BBs] don't want any competition. They have the pull & bucks to buy the legislation that will give them a fence around their own sandbox. And Congress is mostly filled w/ COWARDS + few will take the effort to look behind the curtain these BBs have drawn to shield the skeptical from truth.
Hello everyone - It's literally not the politicians They're just the salesman.
Washington and the administrative state are getting nervous, and they want a piece of the pie. So they reach out to the so-called oligarchs, hand them the script, and suddenly everyone starts singing the same tune.
And what do the oligarchs and their organizations get out of it? Essentially, exclusive rights to lead the AI rollout.
It becomes a pretty convenient arrangement for everyone involved: Washington gets its oversight, the oligarchs get a protected position at the front of the AI rollout, politicians get to play defender of the realm and take the acclaim, and life moves on.
You nailed it. The biggest threats to the big three is competition. The biggest threat to the politicians who want to regulate it is an honest AI that is not geared to narratives they wish to promote. You can control three companies. It is far more difficult to control hundreds.
Exactly, amen, preach it, and spot on! It’s ridiculous to think these intelligent men are sincerely looking to a bunch of people WHO ADMITTEDLY DON’T USE AI to set up reasonable guidelines for AI tech. They clearly just don’t want any future US competitors.
Yes the fact is that, as in all industries in the US (and even more so in Europe because there is infinitely more regulation) the largest Corporations have the resources to deal with the regulatory maze. Smaller Corporations who could potentially emerge into competitors do not.
That said, I believe the US "Big boys" have bigger things to worry about, namely China. The US reasonably sees AI as its only possible survival strategy to grow out of its debt problem, despite no propensity of Congress to reduce spending. This assumes that AI is both a) relevant and b) economically viable. I think China understands this and wants to throw a spanner in the works.
For China, AI is just a component of its drive to overtake the US technologically and its open source approach suggests a strategic intention to spoil the profitability party, so blocking the "only possible survival strategy" of the US.
The US has always underestimated China and does so at its own peril. As is becoming increasingly obvious by the day.
Related and relevant issue : Chinese EVs are VERY good with better quality, better technology and far lower prices than anything the west can offer?
