So how do we get Congress to get with the program? They are our elected trustees and care failing in that assignment. How can we get rid of lobbyists, etc..? I truly pray that DOGE will start investigating each and every person in Congress as well as their staff. Too much corruption and treason.
This is NOT going to happen because the GOP is in power. GOP corruption and treason are okay if the right people are doing it. "Elected trustees" gave me a good laugh. 99.99% have never represented us and never will. Unless you are rich or famous, they don't care about you.
Oh, yeah. It's all easy for Donald, with his too big to fail ego. If you're a billionaire, like Trump, you won't even notice the tariff-caused price increases. He said we have to sacrifice for the future. How long? Five years? He'll be gone. But, haven't we already been sacrificing the last 5 years? The tiger was released before knowing if he was hungry. Peter, the green shoots may be coming up-- it's just a lot longer await to harvest it. Be careful, the next few years are liable to be full of ups and downs, especially in the stock market.
Having spent my career in the semiconductor industry, there is precisely ZERO chance of reshoring the industry. Semis depend on high volumes and tight supply chains which are not achievable selling into just the US market. Not to mention the complete lack of an intelligent and hardworking workforce. Even TSMC in Arizona had to ship in Taiwanese workers because the dumb & lazy Americans couldn't do the job. Tariffs are not about reshoring industry.
Eric, I have automated manufacturing operations in Europe, Asia and the US and the creativity and work ethic of the American worker holds up against every other work force. What I miss in Asia, particularly in China and India, is the creativity and aggressivity to come up with changes and better solutions. What the Asians have to offer is the easiest to automate. So in the long run my money is on the American.
Many Americans out of high school cannot read/write at an 8th grade level. Lots of manufacturing expertise in America is long gone. Also, no doubt lots of H1-HB Visa holders will be brought in to snap up those "American" jobs.
Funny how no one believed the BLS numbers and now they are being reported with a straight face. BLS hasn't changed and so these numbers will no doubt be heavily revised over the next two months. How many of those jobs are part-time jobs too? As the joke goes, everyone has two or three jobs now to make ends meet.
"Trump and Elon are doing their best on every front, cutting useless rules and trying to lower government spending." No one in the White House is serious about cutting government spending. The Pentagon budget should be cut in half and instead they recently announced the first $1 Trillion budget. Yet they cannot tell you where all the money went. There are 5 big categories which make up 76% of all spending and neither Musk nor Trump will touch them. They are looking under the soft seat cushions for the mortgage money. How about cutting the $35 billion to Israel every year and ALL foreign aid? You know they won't propose that. In fact, they extended Biden's CR to the end of this fiscal year. You cannot make any of this up.
As for factories coming here, what's to stop the next President from undoing all the tariffs? Not many factories are going to open when tariffs can be negotiated away and suddenly your plant becomes unprofitable. As for MyPillow, CEO Mike Lindell drove it into the ground with his political stunts. You should have been paying attention, Elon, but now Tesla is in the political crosshairs. The liberals probably bought more of your cars than conservatives. Now you have done a Mike Lindell.
I fid it incredible the way businesses jumped on off-shoring, ignoring the damage to their customer base, the long and expensive supply chains, and the rapaciousness of the countries they were moving manufacturing to. Having worked in transportation for almost my whole working life, I could see what moving thousands of miles away, with the least costly transportation being by ocean and rail, would do to planning around weeks of transportation, when efficient manufacturing had just begun to see the profitability of rapid transportation. Getting products to market from development to the hands of customers and the minimization of the cost of inventory and storage space now in a pipe dream. A minimum transportation time on weeks instead of hours knocked all of that planning and execution into a cocked hat. Inventory instead was maximized, increasing costs dramatically. More storage space, delays, and property taxes on buildings and on inventory has gone through the roof. And obsolescence, decay, and insurance also increase, (see https://www.dynamicdis.com/post/hidden-costs-of-overstock-storage-depreciation-obsolescence)
Clinton and the GOP Congress were HAPPY to let their CEO buddies make fortunes on their stock options by moving American manufacturing to China, the newest member in the WTO. They all voted for it. Business, in many cases, either went overseas or went under. I remember reading about a company who made turkey roasters here. They went to a trade show and there was a Chinese version. They knew they were dead meat and so shut down their plant and made them over there too.
No country, having deindustrialized over decades, has ever brought back any significant manufacturing back. It's over. Even Trump has changed his tune, now claiming it is to isolate China. Even he knows the jobs coming back mantra wasn't believable.
Well observed. I did order a new machine for my MidWest operation from Germany, and now, just when it's ready to be shipped, I get hit with a tariff. Just the opposite of the intended effect. However, I'll be ready to supply, when the Chinese competition is struggling to help pay the taxes into the US treasury via customs duties. What is concerning, is that the Democrats and RINO's are gaslighting the public with the tariffs as an additional tax. In the real world you pay for the DC bureaucrats either with your income tax, or saddle you children with more debt, or you are asking those who prefer to employ Chinese rather than their fellow Americans to pitch in with some extra duty on their imports. I prefer the last option.
That are tens of thousands of items made in China which can never be made here economically. The prices WILL go up to pay for those tariffs. Stop acting like those companies can absorb a 100% tariff. American manufacturing is gone forever. China rewards engineers and scientists; America rewards MBAs. This is why we are toast.

Getting rid of red tape and providing tax incentives are the key, and will vary from State to State.
So, the Southeast will benefit the most in the short term.
Therefore the brain and talent drain from States like California and New York to Southern States will accelerate.

Curious to see if there will be the usual job revisions on this one. Linking as usual @https://nothingnewunderthesun2016.com/

I’m willing to stick it out for the good of the country in the long run. I’d rather take this ‘medicine’ now vs my kids down the road.
