The markets like anyone who will fill the economy with electronic pesos from Heaven. More spending means more inflation and rising rates which means more spending and on and on and much of that money finds its way into the markets because otherwise you could never have all of them rising at once. These government clowns could never have enough money if they sucked every dollar from the planet into the DC Swamp as well as converted every other currency into dollars and added that into the pot.
Although Trump is better than Harris it’s marginal at this point. What we need is a complete reversal of over regulation and spending by government agencies that should not even exist. The migrants are probably being let in as cheap labor and later possible recruits for the military.
The GOP has made it clear they will never defund any agency, no matter how useless or counterproductive they might be. Take the Department of Education. If it went poof tomorrow, nothing would change in education in the US. It is a useless money pit, but keep wishing because the GOP could not even get rid of the tiny, misnamed National Endowment for the Arts. This is why I don't even vote anymore. I am sick of the corruptness of the two parties. Neither do, or will, represent me. They serve Big Business, the MIC, Ukraine, and Israel.
In fairness and I think you touched on this in a prior article of yours, Trump is gonna spend a hell of a lot of money and that’s also good for the markets (nominally and in the short run). Blame it on congress or whoever but the deficit spending is going to be unprecedented if he wants to outright avoid a recession - really doesn’t matter how many tax cuts and regulations he lifts, the buildup of entropy is too large in my opinion. As far as the election is concerned, I’ve been thinking that the dems are fine losing this election. They have an expendable candidate in Kamala who was always politically unfavorable even amongst their party and so they plan to use the inevitable recession to stoke more anger against their now enemies (business, freedom of speech, the constitution, etc). I could expand further but wanted to get your thoughts - as dumb as the economic policies we have been seeing suggested from their side I wonder if this a strategic L for them. If anyone is willing I would like to hear opposing opinions steel man the case against my hypothesis.
I had to laugh at your listing the Constitution. Neither party have any use for it, as to truly follow it would be shutting 99% of all federal agencies. The GOP is now in love with Big Government, so long as they run it, and would be aghast to have it all destroyed.
I think maybe you're being a little optimistic here, professor. I look at the debt and I see a deep, dark chasm. I would also factor in many booby traps that were most likely installed by the administration now in office, in case of a trump victory. But thank you for the warm thoughts
Don't buy the boobytraps, but the debt, certainly. All this debt doesn't go poof because Trump is elected. Credit card balances don't get wiped. Companies don't get clean balance sheets. The banks are the only ones bailed out each and every time, on our dime.
People will keep losing purchasing power no matter who is president. If they don’t close the deficit gap, we’re all screwed. Most people have no idea that their income needs to match or beat the money inflation rate…7-12%, or could be higher. Companies give a 3-4% cost of living raise and that won’t cut it if the gubmint keeps expanding the deficit.
What a load. Markets are up when the odds of winning are up. What odds? Where is this magic bookmaker that drives the markets? Markets are driven by fundamentals and the fundamentals of the Biden/Harris economy are strong and a getting stronger by the day. I know the HF would love a recession or two so they can implement Project 2025 - sorry, tough luck.
It is an illusion! Fake money with first touch harvest by criminals(dod, gov, ect) that are investing heavily in technology to control(cbdc) and outright kill boxes(jab).
All this debt can vaporize and wtf will the losers do? Start war? Kill us-absolutely…
Peter, I’m not sure how you can claim that recession is “coming.” We are already in a recession and have been for over two years. The yield curve has been inverted since 2022.
I am sorry, but Trump's victory will not make credit card balances disappear. It will not make inflation go away. Regardless of who wins, the National Debt will continue to climb and interest payments will continue to destroy more of the budget. Neither candidate has bothered to address this 900 pound gorilla in the room, which means they simply do not care and believe it does not matter. Neither candidate is versed well in the economy or finance and so they will default to whatever the Fed and/or their advisors tell them. That is truly scary. Perhaps the plan is to destroy the Dollar. Certainly looks this way.
I think we all know the cheating machine is performing at its best. Why do Kamala’s handlers refuse to put her in a press conference? Because she’s the most terrible candidate we’ve ever seen. But when you know you can steal any election and you’re tightening that grip all the time, it’ll be nearly impossible to break it and you can put any puppet candidate on the ballot.

It’s always easy spending other people’s (tax payers) money. Such a disaster.
At some rate, I suspect all dollars will come back to the U.S., just not in the way envisioned, meaning hyperinflation.
I’m cautiously optimistic!

Maybe for the DC insiders. Certainly not for ordinary people.
