I would take one issue with your essay. Unbalanced immigration is bad, which is what we’ve had for years now.
Our immigration strategy should be multi-faceted. Always on the lookout for skilled workers and always conscious of a need for general labor. Skilled workers is an easy one, but for general labor you need only track average hourly earnings. Right now it has been suppressed by unrelenting low skill immigration. So for the time being all low skilled immigration should stop. Once wages have risen to an appropriate level, a managed flow of immigration could once again be considered. Because at a certain point, labor scarcity will become a thing, and to grow the economy, you will need more general labor.
NO, companies need to start investing in there employees as they did in the 1960-70 and stop bring in people to take our jobs. The reason people are not making babies is because they will never have the money to raise them. So we will never have a skilled workforce, time to go looking skilled labor over seas, the cycles starts again.
I didn’t say that. And I acknowledged what the immigration of low skilled workers does to wages. Yes, employers need to quit just expecting a college grad plug and play. The SCOTUS Griggs decision destroyed company training - finally that is starting to be dismantled.
Finally, urbanization has reduced births because kids are at that point just a money pit. Whereas in a rural setting they were labor. The financial impact of having kids has changed. Decreasing illegal
Immigration would help them secure more stater jobs, and reducing job requirements needing college would reduce the expense of having kids. Both of these are showing signs of evolving. Plus women starting to reject the two earner income trap.
I would argue Americans just don't know how to manage money, which is why they don't kids. Stop buying so much junk from the big box stores. How much do you really need? Do you need a new vehicle when one 2-5 years old still has a lot of life left in it? I drive a 2005 Accord with 285+ miles on it and keep it looking good. Everyone must have the latest phone and the largest TV. Also, McMansions so they can impress their friends. Kids are an investment; not a money pit.
Those unskilled workers have no loyalty for America. They send as much money as possible out of the country, which doesn't exactly help America. We don't need unskilled workers; just pay enough and you will get all the citizens you want as laborers.
You should check out https://substack.com/@mattgoodwin . In the past, he's produced some really good data on the story of low or no skilled migration category in the UK. The figure from mass migration is 60% for low or no skilled. Only 4% of all migration to the UK qualifies as net contributor!
I would like to know the source for your data for each graph. On the first graph, what is the difference between the red and the blue bars, I could not find a legend.
Real life hard too, a lot of these workers stay longer at the jobs vs high schoolers/college kids/citizens who dont have an education but want to be treated as if they do and get paid as if they do(these types get the lower class jobs).
Example: Dairy work. Mexicans documented and undocumented, last years. White folks last a week, blacks last less.
This isnt a reflection on work ethic but I do believe Americans in their desire to work less for more, push them towards different jobs. Office jobs or education pursuits.
People should have thought of that before hiring illegals. If they wanted to keep these undocumented workers, they should have setup workshops to help them get their green cards.
Which raises the question : so WHY do Western Governments continue to pursue mass indiscriminate immigration. They all have economists who I'm sure point out exactly what Peter notes in this essay?
It's almost as though there is an entirely different agenda which doesn't involve economics. Perhaps one of dividing society, diluting cultures, erasing the historical context of societies thereby weakening resistance to the introduction of the Globalists' glorious NWO?
It’s partially emotional or fear driven; but it’s also cultural invasion.
From late 1800s to early 1900s it was common to hear or read about people who wanted to become Americans and make their wealth here.
Then it became cool to rebuild their homelands culture here, like little itally, little saigon, little china, etc.
The isolationist culture of the 1950s and later grew into full cultural encampments, creating havens for enemies of the people of these United States to build up their counter American cultures which were meant to be isolationists pockets of their homeland.
These differentiated from the Little China Areas, in that most of little China (NY) was open to the public, same with little Saigon (Orange County California, and Little Cuba (Florida).
I’ve been around long enough that I have seen The US land men on the moon, the Division between the races start to collapse just to see the media and liberal govt restart the schism, and finally hit two massive crashes, with this second one being massively bigger than the two priors.
All major failures of the US are caused by the same bodies of people, suck up leftist media that love repeating Fascist media of WWII Italy, and liberal (both major parties are liberal) who steal from the population through taxes, bad regulation, and inflation which devalues your money.
Elites want cheap labor and more bodies to buy stuff. If you own a large apartment complex and have vacancies you will have to lower the price, but if you have legions of immigrants all fighting for the apartments you can raise the rates.
And as a business owner why pay an american worker high wages and health insurance, just import cheap desperate labor.
This whole narrative of diversity is so amazing and mass immigration is wonderful is pushed by the elites, plain and simple.
"The labor shortage fallacy has been one of open borders’ most successful arguments."
Only because no one thinks the argument through. If I want X number of employees to clean hotel rooms and I don't get enough applicants, it simply means the wages/benefits are too low. But we hear the nonsense that Americans won't do this or that job, but they left unsaid Americans won't work for peanuts. Labor is supply and demand. Business loves massive illegal immigration because they can get them to work for less than Americans. Who does this hurt? American citizens, especially those most vulnerable with jobs which can easily be taken by illegals. Nice to see how we care so much for our own citizens.
Where is your source for the assertion that illegal immigrants commit more crime than citizens? I just looked it up again and couldn’t find that. Particularly serious / violent crimes. It seems to be the opposite.
If you’re making claims not backed up by evidence then it calls into question everything else you state here, though I think it’s generally a good argument.
Then the question remains, "Why is the Left so adamant about importing low skilled labors, criminals, and welfare cases?" To fan the flames of class warfare?
I think it’s because the number of reps for each state in the House of Representatives in DC are determined by the census, and the census counts everyone in a state, not just citizens. So states that have high illegal immigration get more reps and therefore more of an influence in American legislation. I really do think it’s as simple as that. Esp for CA, since hundreds of thousand of people have moved out since the Covid overreach. Also, did you know that CA has 40% of the illegal immigrants in the US? I heard that a few days ago and was really surprised.
I think the Congressman on the Right also believe in immigration, or they would've been more adamant during the last administration. I don't remember nary a peep from them.
No, they hate America and everything about it. Nothing like importing low skilled labor who doesn't speak English to help destroy everything. Just look at Quebec and Canada to see what two languages do to cohesion and trust.

This argument of skilled labor shortage due to the non-controlled unskilled labor is compelling.

I'm sure the Biden Administration wouldn't have tracked any of this data for a reason.

I like to read your perspective
Problem to get the reel picture
Do we have access to data, numbers to support statement ?
The problem have been built over 40 years .who benefit from the illegal ?
Big Business, of course. Who those Inside the Beltway worship and adore, not to mention push their agenda even if consumers are on the losing end.
