"The economy is booming. But nobody’s hiring."? Really?

Most of the GDP growth was from AI Capex and inventory build (due to weak consumer sales. So perhaps the answer lies in false assumptions.

I have first hand experience with this. I’m an “experienced worker” and I use “AI” all day, every day for tasks ranging from updating progress on my “tickets” (work items) to reading through log files to coding. The “AI” produces work of quality somewhere in the intern to new graduate range. It needs to be closely supervised and instructions have to be clearly and carefully worded for best results. I spend maybe $150/day in tokens. (I use both major providers’ top-end models, frequently to cross-check each other. That’s a whole adventure in hilarity that there’s no room for here).

But the reality is that I can get the same leverage from $30k/year in tokens that I could get from two new graduates at easily $60k/year each in total employment cost.

I’m not convinced, though, that when I’m gone the “AI” will be able to replace my half-century of experience. The evidence so far suggests not.

Would be interesting to see the % of government workers in the population then vs. now and the difference in the regulatory environment.

Looks like an opportunity for employee leasing companies.
